About Nepal Visa

The Department of Immigration in Nepal offers a convenient 'Visa on Arrival' service for tourists. This process is typically quick and straightforward, although there may be some waiting during peak tourist seasons. Alternatively, you can obtain a visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions abroad before your arrival.

If you obtain a visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission, you must enter Nepal within six months of the visa's issue date, and your total stay is counted from the day of your arrival.

Visas acquired at entry and exit points are known as 'Tourist Visas' and allow for multiple reentries. Even if you're visiting Nepal for purposes other than tourism (such as trekking, mountaineering, or visiting friends and family), you should initially obtain a 'Tourist Visa.' Later, you can change the visa category to match your purpose and length of stay by providing the necessary documents to the Department of Immigration.

Certain nationalities are required to obtain a visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions before arrival, including Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, and refugees with travel documents.

To obtain a 'Tourist Visa on Arrival' at the airport (Tribhuvan International Airport - TIA), follow these steps if you haven't acquired a visa before boarding your flight:

1st Step

Fill out the 'Arrival Card.'
Complete the online 'Tourist Visa' form on the Department of Immigration's official website before your arrival. You'll receive a submission receipt with a barcode. Print it and bring it with you. It's valid for 15 days; if it expires, you'll need to fill it out again.

2nd Step

Make the visa payment at the bank, depending on your visa requirement (15/30/90 days).
Collect the receipt. While various payment methods are accepted at the visa fees collection counter, it's advisable to carry some cash.
On Arrival Visa Fee at Entry Points

15 Days: USD 30
30 Days: USD 50
90 Days: USD 125

3rd Step

Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form, payment receipts, and your passport.
Submit your documents to the immigration officer for visa processing. The officer will issue the visa upon satisfaction.
Visa Extension Fee

Tourist visa extension starts at USD 45 for a minimum of 15 days, with an additional USD 3 per day for extra days.
For delays of less than 150 days, there's an additional USD 5 per day as a late fine.
Gratis Visa (Visa for Free)

Gratis Visa is issued free of cost for certain categories of applicants, including children below 10 years (except US citizens), SAARC citizens visiting Nepal for the first time in a visa year (excluding Afghanistan), NRN cardholders, and Chinese nationals for 150 days.
Some officials from specific countries do not require an Entry Visa based on reciprocal agreements.

All visas issued at the airport are considered Tourist Visas. To extend your visa or change its category, contact the Department of Immigration. Tourist Visa extensions can also be done at the Immigration Office in Pokhara. Non-tourist visa extensions are possible only at the Department of Immigration, with a maximum duration of one year (except for business visas).
